Not a good week

That wasn’t quite the start I had in mind for year 4. I was really hoping for a strong start and to stay in the black all season. But by now I know things are rarely smooth sailing. Let’s just hope this time it doesn’t take another 8 months to reach parity. I actually think I mess with my head much more then I need to by creating a new spreadsheet every year, as the only number that matters is the overall profit. I need to create one chart with the 3 prior years results on it and only look at that. If anyone reading this has great excel skills and wouldn’t mind helping me do that then just reply in the comments.

The numbers below are once again insignificant as they are just year 4 numbers. The only ones that will matter are Total Profit, Total Turnover and Total ROI, these are the combined numbers for all 3 and a bit years. Currently these stand at $169,309.52 profit after $9,809,745.53 turnover which is a ROI of 1.73%.

I mentioned last week that MLB seems to be on a bit of a slide recently and that came to be in a big way this week with over $13,550 lost. That pretty much brings the season profit back to $0. The way things are going it will be negative this time next week. It has felt like a real switch the last few weeks and I don’t see that reversing anytime soon.

ATP also had a poor end to Wimbledon with another $3,300 lost. AFL had a quite week with a loss of $2,850. The only profitable model was the NRL one with $1,500 profit.

A horrendous start to what I hope is a breakthrough year for my portfolio. I’m still not confident that this can be a constant way to make money. I have averaged $60,000 profit per year over the past 3 years but at no time have I felt confident that I would continue to make money. The great thing about betting on sports is also it’s curse for me, the constant ups and downs are what makes the average punter lose his hard earned week after week, that rush of a great week where everything worked and even the weeks where you lose a fortune, but at least you can complain to mates and tell them how ripped off you were. When your trying to treat something as erratic as betting as an investment, you really don’t want these emotions involved. Even in another 10 years I will probably still not feel confident each year. By then hopefully the bank will tell a different story.

Total loss for the week was $18,212.57
