October Fitness Review (-1.4 KG)
This will be a very quick fitness update.
I spent most of the month in Japan. Travelling around Japan is not conducive to a ketogenic diet and there was no way I was missing out on Japanese food. I’ll be breaking down the trip costs and my thoughts on Japan in another post next week.
Last month I had said if I could only put on 1 kilo over October I’d be ecstatic. In Japan, I ate whatever I wanted, and it was a lot. It was also mostly calorie-rich, carb-rich food. But I did also walk an amazing amount.
I ended September weighing in at 94.8 kilos.
As you can see from my weight graph, when I weighed myself the day I got home I was 96, but that quickly fell back to 94 over the next few days. I ended the month at 93.4 kilos. The last week of October, it was difficult to change my new Japanese habits and it wasn’t until November that I went back to eating Keto.
The one thing I did do was walk, a lot. When I am home, I average less than 4,000 steps a day. For the month of October, the average was 12,113. But that included 10 days at home. I was easily hitting 15,000 steps per day in Japan.
One benefit of travelling with a kid was that we took a stroller with us everywhere. I’ve talked before about my sciatica and how I need to sit down and rest every 15 minutes. The Stroller acted as a walker for me and I could put a lot of pressure on my arms to combat the pain in my leg. This meant I rarely needed to stop for a break on this trip. Now I just need to constantly have new kids until it is socially acceptable for me to use an old man walker (problem solved).
I was buggered at the end of most days and up early the next, but my Oura ring told me I still averaged 7 hours and 41 minutes of sleep per night, just 5 minutes less than in September. But my REM sleep was much lower, averaging just 1hour and 9 minutes compared to 1 hour 27 in September and I could feel the impact during the day.
The Food
Ramen, Sushi, Tempura, Okonomiyaki, Oden, Mochi, Udon, Takoyaki, Bento, Korokke, I could go on forever. I had it all and loved it all. I tried a heap of new foods and they were all amazing. I was eating 3,000+ calories a day. But the walking was burning the excess off. I can’t wait till I get to a weight I am happy with and know I can eat what I want as long as I keep the exercise up.
Final Thoughts
So that’s it for October, even with travelling and eating a lot of food, I managed to lose 1.4kilos. I’ve seen it on most trips I go on, as long as I keep active, I don’t put on weight. Cruises are another story altogether. Back into Ketosis and the bike for November and looking to add a few more steps per day.
I’ll hold off on the monthly photos, as I feel it’s like the difference between living with someone and seeing someone once every few months. The Monthly pics only show a small improvement. Instead, if I update the photo every 3 months, you should be able to see a huge improvement.
