TAB’s 50% boost on 1st goalscorers is a joke

Every second commercial I see when watching the world cup is one from TAB telling me about their awesome offer where they have boosted the prices of their 1st goal scorer bets for all Australian and Brazilian players. Now I have talked about how bad these markets are before. Pretty much it is like offering you 1.34 when the odds should be $2. With a 50% boost, these prices would come up to where they actually should be in a fair market.

So I had a look at what the odds were as there might just be some value for me to take advantage of. Let’s just say that the odds were an absolute disgrace. The image below shows what was on offer (and remember, the 50% price boost has already been added).

Let’s just look at the first 3 prices, as these are the most likely to score first and should also offer the most value. We have Neymar at $4.5, which means his real price was $3 before the 50% boost. Fred at $6 ($4 before), and Hulk at $7.5 ($5 before). Are these good prices? let’s compare them to the normal market prices from some other Australian bookmakers.

Sportsbet have Neymar at $4.5, this is without any type of price boost. Fred is $5.50 at a few places and Hulk is widely available for $6. There may be some value on Hulk, but it’s very small.

Is it really a 50% price boost when the markets already start at a massive disadvantage and then they also lower the odds by 40% again before adding the so called boost? I think this is false advertising. The second and more concerning issue is that they say it is an uncapped bonus, so you can bet whatever you like on it. I tried to place $1,000 on Neymar and was turned down and offered even lower odds then the site showed.

TAB, this is a complete joke.
